The company identified climate change as a key issue in its 2023 materiality assessment, leading to the development of a Carbon Reduction Plan in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This exercise unfolded in a structured four-step approach, as illustrated:

The first critical action was to clearly define the organizational and operational boundaries of our emissions calculation, distinguishing between direct and indirect emissions sources. Concurrently, baseline inventories were collected to establish a clear understanding of our current emissions footprint.

Aligned with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) to reduce carbon emissions and increase renewable energy use, Bupa Arabia is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing climate action. This commitment is evident in our responsible operations, sustainable decision-making, and innovative healthcare services. A major step in our carbon reduction efforts was relocating our Riyadh office to the LEED platinum-certified King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). This move, along with the building’s advanced features, has led to a 42% reduction in energy consumption compared to the previous year. Which includes:

Telemedicine services
At Bupa Arabia we are using mobile technology to reduce hospital visits, cutting transportation-related carbon emissions. Our telemedicine services, especially Tebtom and Sanar, grew significantly in 2023, by giving 88,000 virtual supporting the National Program for Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Development.
Tree planting initiatives
We launched an environmental campaign focused on urban tree planting, directly supporting the SGI's efforts to combat desertification and climate change. This initiative exemplified our commitment to sustainability and demonstrated how community events can align with broader environmental goals, providing a model for integrating eco-conscious practices into corporate and public engagements.
